I've Been Tagged

There's a new game going around on the internet - blog tag. I've been tagged by Teddi who is the principal photographer of Picture the Day and I'm supposed to list "8 fun facts" about myself and then tag 8 other photographers. Here goes nothing!

1. My husband and I met at Home Depot where I went shopping for a toilet and a bathroom sink. We flirted in the toilet aisle for over 2 hours. Yes, a Home Depot wedding was considered for about 1.5 seconds after he popped the question. Thankfully we got married in Hawaii instead.

2. I actually graduated from high school when I was 17. My Dad gave me this ultimatum "when you live under my house, you'll follow my rules" which only lit a fire under my behind to move out of the house - It took me 3 months to finish school. I guess it proved 2 things - when you put your mind to it, you can do anything AND give me the opportunity to REBEL and I will gladly take it.

3. I hate flying, which is hilarious because I lived in Hawaii for more than half my life and if I ever wanted to go ANYWHERE, I had to fly. It's especially funny now that I moved to Austin and all of my weddings are located in Colorado - so I fly practically every weekend during wedding season (or at least every 2 weeks). I still can't get used to it. It's only the take off that I don't like - which everyone thinks is the best part!

4. Okay, this will date me but who cares? Here is a small list of the concerts that I've been to in my life: LoverBoy, BonJovi, Molly Hatchet, ZZ Top, Jefferson Starship, INXS, George Michael, Van Halen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Jane's Addiction, The Rollins Band, Mud Honey, Helmet, Sting, Coldplay, Crystal Method - just to name a few.

5. I have a sister and 2 step brothers, we are extremely close!

6. I could eat at Chipotle every day - this is what I usually have - Chicken Bowl - light rice, black beans, chicken, pico, sour cream, light cheese and lettuce. I eat half and take home the rest.

7. One of the most adventurous things I've done is swim with wild dolphins in the open ocean. It was one of the best weeks of my life.

8. When I lived in Hawaii, I was a banquet manager for years. To this day, when I arrive at a wedding, I can't help but notice if there is a cake knife and plate on the cake table. More often than not, there isn't!

A Wedding on 7.28.07

This post may get long and I'll try to let the photos speak for themselves.

This next wedding was an incredible one for many reasons. I was contacted by Rene who was inquiring about my services, not for herself, but for her Grandmother, Jan. I was surprised, because as a wedding photographer, you don't really expect your clients to be in their 60's. I was so excited, because clearly there was an incredible story to tell. I couldn't believe my luck that I had been chosen to meet this wonderful family and learn about this love story. As a photographer and artist, I always enjoy being challenged and being pushed outside of my comfort zone, it's when I create my best work.

I am ever so grateful for the people I meet and work with - they so enrich my life.

Here is a snippet of Rene's e-mail to me after viewing the wedding day photos:
"What a great suprise to find those photos in my box this morning. What a great way to wake up... my first cup of coffee and your brilliant photos! It was a joy to find you, to meet you and to work with you. Icing on the cake to get to see such a beautiful finished product! The images are everything I knew they would be when I saw your portfolio online. Looking through them I laughed, I cried, I oohhed. I aaahhhed. Rex and I are both very impressed and very happy with what you captured. You are fantastically talented!"

Here is a clip of Jan's e-mail to me (my lovely bride):
"I have no words to adequately thank you for the way you captured our lovely weekend of celebrations. Our memories will live forever through your photographs."

In the last photo, that is the bride and groom with the groom's father. Incredible!

On to the photographs:

A Wedding on 7.27.07

There were so many things to love about this wedding! One of the most amazing things was how calm both Eric and Leslie were before the wedding. The original ceremony location was outside but we all know how crazy the weather can be in Colorado and unfortunately, a big rainstorm rolled through. They remained as cool as cucumbers and rolled with all the changes that were happening. You could tell they just wanted to be married! Congratulations to the both of you - we were so glad to be there!

I've been such a BAD BLOGGER! I'm really needing to catch up!

Here are a few images from a wedding on 7.7.07 - the most popular date of the year! Deanna and Bryan had some fabulous details - love the flowers from Delilahs and expert wedding planning from Heather @ Table 6 Productions. Also, I love the two shots that my assistant caught from the balcony! Thanks Deanna and Bryan for having us there - we loved it!

A Wedding on 7.1.07

I don't know where to begin. There were so many colors, emotions and purely magical moments. Peggy of Peggy Dyer Photography was my second photographer and she captured truly incredible images all day! It started first at the bride's house where everyone gathered for the tea ceremony. There was a second ceremony at the groom's house and after that, we went downtown on an amazing photo journey that lasted for 3 hours! After all of those photos, we went to the reception for 600 guests - it was truly an amazing day! Caroline and Karng, it was a dream to work with you - thanks for having us there!
